Energy audit

An energy audit is a service where the energy efficiency of a company is evaluated by an expert using professional methods, with the aim to suggest the best ways to improve energy efficiency in energy usage. An energy audit may involve monitoring various characteristics of the production process. For each of the components of the process energy is measured or estimated. The production of the company is also monitored in order establish a relation between energy seen as the input and production seen as the output.
The goal of this exercise is to quantify the company’s overall energy performance.
The audit may also assess the efficiency, physical condition, and programming of mechanical systems such as the heating, cooling, and all energy processes.
A company energy audit is used to identify cost effective ways to improve the efficiency of the process. In addition, companies may qualify for energy efficiency grants from central government.
A company energy audit may include a written report estimating energy usage in relation to production and giving explicit suggestions on how to improve the process. These suggestions will also include an business plan of every proposed intervention. Evaluating the internal rate of return of the proposed intervention the management of the company should have the data necessary to decide on investments that will lead to cost reduction.
